Scholarships for Single Mothers

Single mothers have to deal with a lot of challenges which often times include financial difficulties that make it hard to finish their education and get a college degree. The more scholarships you know about the better, because you will want to know what all of your options are for financial assistance. It is a good idea to apply to as many of these scholarships as possible so you will be able to increase your chances of getting the kind of education that you need to earn a degree that will open the door to numerous career opportunities in a certain field. When you actually take the time to find out about these scholarships you will discover that there are a lot of opportunities for funding waiting for you.

The Jeannette Rankin Foundation Scholarship Program is just one of the many options that you have when it comes to finding the funds you need to go to an accredited college or university. It was started in 1978 and since then it has given over 500 women the opportunity to go to college and earn a degree in the area of study they are most interested in. Although this particular scholarship is not targeted specifically at single moms, it is still available to women who have children and no means of going through college to earn a degree. You will be able to fill out an application for this scholarship on their website to see if you qualify for funds that can be used to further your education.

Another scholarship option for single mothers is the R.O.S.E. Scholarship. It gives college scholarships to women who have overcome domestic abuse and are striving to become independent and empowered by going to college for a degree. It is only for women who plan on going to school in the New England area and they are only awarded to those women who have already completed one year of an undergraduate program. The funds provided will be given for expenses such as tuition, books, and other fees that may be encountered while going to college in the Northeast area of the country.

The W.I.S.P Change Your World Scholarship is another one that you will want to apply to. It was started in 2007 and is geared towards those who graduate from the Women’s Independence Scholarship Program. Single mothers who are looking for a way to go back to college but do not have the funds will definitely want to think about this as an option. It was created in order to motivate women to go back to school and get a degree so they will be able to improve their chances of breaking into a better career.

Lastly, we have the Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation for Low Income Women and Children.  This foundation was founded by the late congresswomen Patsy Mink.  Each year, five applicants are awarded $2,000 towards education or training.  To apply, applicants must be:

  • a woman, at least 17 years old
  • a mother
  • enrolled in an accredited education program
  • low income

With a majority of these scholarships you will be able to apply for them online and get a response via email. This makes the application process a lot easier and less time-consuming. It is important to apply to as many different scholarships as possible, because the more you send applications into the better your chances will be of finally getting the one you need to go to school. You should keep in mind that getting more than one scholarship may be necessary to fund your entire educational experience because of the rising cost of tuition and other fees that are associated with going to college.
